Your Instructor

Janicka A. Arthur

I am Janicka Arthur, an entrepreneur, choreographer, and movement strategist. I have the utmost pleasure in creating a safe place to teach adults how to explore their bodies, challenge themselves physically, and enhance their overall health while learning ballet. To me, dance is not intricate steps and pretty costumes. It is an artistic form of physical expression that requires the ability to overcome preconceived notions and maintain a personal drive for excellence.

I began my dance training at the ETA Cultural Center on the Southside of Chicago. After finding my passion in dance, I continued my education by attending the only independent art high school in Illinois, The Chicago Academy for the Arts under the direction of Anna Paskevska and Randy Duncan. Over the years, I became well versed in Ballet, Modern, Jazz, and West African dance receiving additional training from the Ailey School, Ballet Chicago, Jeraldyne’s School of Dance, and Deeply Rooted Productions. In 2008, I received a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Dance Performance from Southern Methodist University where I performed many works including the restaging of Martha Graham’s Panorama and Agnes de Mille’s The Four Marys.

My desire for teaching ignited in an audition. There I was, standing front and center, before the panel. Fortunately, I was unafraid as I knew that my training had prepared me for that exact moment. I said to myself “when I get a chance to teach hopeful artist, I will prepare them for a successful audition”.

Now, I am an instructor at The School of Contemporary Ballet Dallas. I teach the Beginner Ballet Series Workshops I& II, Beginner & Beginner/Intermediate Ballet Drop-In, and Intro to Intermediate Ballet classes. I have designed each class to challenge, motivate, and promote individual progression within the art form. I encourage you to step outside of your comfort zone and into a world full of wonder and change.
