Meet Me At The Barre

An online program designed to help beginner and returning dancers master the basic fundamentals at the barre, so when you step into the studio, you feel confident and ready to get started on your ballet journey!

Are you ready to give yourself permission to start your ballet journey?

I mean seriously….

You’ve done so much for everyone else. Isn’t it time that you do something for yourself? How many times have you considered….

  • Wanting to return to ballet after a long break from dance and finding yourself longing for a full-body experience of tuning out the noise and back into your inner self?
  • Starting ballet for the first time, after feeling fear of the social stigma of others’ disapproval?
  • Coming to ballet just for the love of nurturing and caring for your body?

What if I told you…

  • That it’s not too late to start as a beginner, to develop your mind, train your body, and humble your soul.

  • That this is the perfect time to dust off your ballet shoes and boldly face the challenge of returning to the barre.

  • Ballet is the perfect vehicle to help you develop a mindset of strength and a soul full of passion where your physical victories truly reflect an inner transformation.

That’s why I created the perfect program to start you on your journey.

“It is never too late to pursue a dream. I never had the opportunity to take ballet as a child and always said that ballet was on my bucket list. Well let me tell you I have found the perfect person to help me pursue this dream. Janicka has a passion for those of us who never have taken ballet and treats us like we are dancers not just adults who are taking a dance class. I have had my struggles and she has been by my side the entire time rooting me on. I am so glad I found her and if you have that ballet itch – she is the one for you”!

Why start with Meet Me At The Barre?

You could just walk into a beginner’s ballet class… but after training beginner ballet students for over 10 years, here’s what I know:

If you don’t understand the terminology and the counts, you’re literally listening to French going, “Um… what?” while other dancers move around you.

Your alignment is off, because you haven’t been at the barre in a while (or, you know, ever), which means you walk away sore and maybe even injured.

And don’t even get me started on your pride! Look, I get it — if you’re not used to being a “beginner” at something, then stepping into a ballet class where you don’t speak the language, don’t know the counts, and are out of alignment can make you feel embarrassed, incompetent, and start wondering why you can’t figure it all out (it looks so easy for everyone else!).

… and then you never come back to class.

It’s not that you’re not good enough at ballet, or that you don’t have what it takes. It’s just that you need someone to walk you through the basics before you step into a class, so that you can feel confident and ready to move.

“I love her classes and her as an instructor! She makes me feel incredible and is helping me become the dancer I’ve always dreamed of! Love Janicka!”

Meet Your Instructor

My name is Janicka A. Arthur. I am an entrepreneur, choreographer, movement strategist, public speaker and creative business consultant located in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

I work directly with mature aspiring dancers (just like you) to guide them through physical MOVEment as they develop a mindset of strength and a soul full of passion where their physical victories truly reflect an inner transformation.

My journey began at the ETA Cultural Center on the Southside of Chicago.

After finding my passion in dance, I continued my education at The Chicago Academy of Arts, the nation’s premier performing and visual arts high school under the direction of Anna Paskevska and Randy Duncan. Over the years, I became well versed in Ballet, Modern, Jazz, and West African Dance receiving additional training from the Ailey School, Ballet Chicago, Jeraldyne’s School of Dance, and Deeply Rooted Productions.

In 2008, I received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance Performance from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas. It was there that my passion for guiding mature aspiring dancers was born. I credit the art and technique of ballet for nurturing me into a woman full of confidence, strength and tenacity, able to overcome any obstacle placed before me.

My desire to empower students with this same glass-ceiling-shattering motivation is what drives me today.
